Understanding Your Coils
IMG_6442.jpg
Hair porosity is how porous the hair is, in determining how it absorbs and holds moisture. Below is a step by step test to determine your hair's porosity.
  • Prepare one glass of water and take a clean strand of hair from your head.

  • Put the clean strand of hair in the glass and allow it to sit for about three minutes.

  • The strand can end up in one of three places; floating at the top of the glass, floating in the middle, or sunken at the bottom of the glass.

High Porosity Hair

High porosity hair can absorb moisture easily but will not retain it.  Hair will feel moisturized at one moment and completely dry the next.  High Porosity hair absorbs excess moisture due to weather patterns and atmospheric conditions, causing it to frizz.  Oil such as Olive Oil is good for sealing the hair's strands. It is filled with antioxidants, minerals, and helps with scalp irritation and dandruff. High porosity hair normally floats at the bottom of the cup.
